Becauseofthedifferentialimpactofpollutingactivitiesaroundtheworld,andevenindifferentregionsofasinglecountry,manygovernmentswillundoubtedlycontinuetopromulgateonlymodestenvironmentalregulations.Coststopollutingcompanieswillcontinuetocarryasmuchweightasthebenefitofapollution-freeenvironment.ParticularlyinthecurrentpoliticalclimateoftheUnitedStates,thewell-documentedexpenseoftoday’spollution-controlmeasureswillbestackedagainsttheunknownlong-termeffectsofpollutingactitivities."WhyshouldIspendmillionsofdollarsayear,whichcausesmetohavetoraisethecostofmygoodsoreliminatejobs,ifnoonereallyknowsifairpollutionisallthatharmful?Showmetheproof,"anairpollutingcompanymaydemand.
